Sierra Nevada Corporation Proposal Writer I (Hybrid and Remote Eligible) in Herndon, Virginia

Are you passionate about creating clear documentation for highly complex systems? We may have the Proposal Writer position you've been seeking! As a Proposal Writer I, you will be using your skills and expertise to work with subject matter experts, to obtain an in-depth comprehension of a variety of systems necessary to meet the documentation specifications for our programs and proposals. These cover a very wide range, from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll develop our operations/maintenance manuals, supplements, and related documentation utilizing engineering drawings, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and CAD models. You'll host recurring internal and external documentation review conferences to solicit feedback from various teams for incorporation into future revisions.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. This role is open to a hybrid schedule or 100% remote work in most states

Responsibilities:

  • Interview Solution Architects and SMEs to document concepts, write responses, and articulate solutions, translating highly technical and complex concepts into easily understandable text for a variety of audiences.

  • Collaborate with Capture Managers, Solution Architects, Program Managers and Volume Leads to drive development of proposal responses and ensure written responses align with proposal requirements.

  • Take ownership of assigned volumes, driving development to meet deadlines and develop quality written responses.

  • Actively participate in team solutioning sessions to articulate solution, strategy, approach to performing the work, experience, win themes, and discriminators.

  • Maintain version control of documents.

  • Review and edit documents (Microsoft Word and PowerPoint) for formatting, grammar, and quality of responses.

  • Incorporate comments from multiple sources into documents and presentations, adjudicate comments from reviewers, and track status of reviewer comments.

  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance proposal quality throughout the Business Area.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study and typically 0-2 or more years of relevant experience

  • A higher level degree may substitute for experience

  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education

  • Ability to manage workload with limited supervision and work as needed to meet deadlines with a geographically disparate team (nights, weekends, and holidays at times)

  • Basic concept of technical writing principles, practices, and standards

  • Experience working as a Proposal Writer with a basic understanding of proposal responses or experience working as proposal writer responding to Federal Government solicitations with a facility with technical concepts.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and basic understanding of SharePoint repositories.

  • Understanding of desktop publishing tools.

  • Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills.

  • Strong work ethic and desire to excel and keep growing over time.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required

Preferred:

  • Willingness to support team members and cross-train to provide back-up support.

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Limited travel to various locations around the United States during proposal efforts may be required.
